Designer reception area
The thermal baths in Bad Kissingen needed a fresh, modern look, one fit for a younger target group: this was what the client requested. OK; so far, so good. The site is a historic building containing an oversized, immovable designer reception desk, custom-designed for the space. What quickly became clear to those in charge at smart art was that it would require a huge amount of paint to cover the whole of the designer desk. The reception desk snakes through the room in wide, dynamic loops, circling load-bearing columns here and there. The problem is that airbrushing always produces a cloud of paint. While it’s relatively easy to protect the artist from inhaling this, protecting a historic building is a challenge on a far bigger scale. Protecting and taping off the areas not to be painted was therefore an arduous process. After many phases, the project was complete: the designer reception area had a new glossy, sophisticated and modern look. Like a sculpture, it is now the visual highlight of the room, drawing the viewer’s gaze and creating an exciting contrast to the historic vaulted ceiling and its dark panelling. Although every job has its own challenges, this “on-site paint job” on a massive scale was truly a first for the smart art team. But despite all the hard work and new experiences, the smart art artists were unanimous: “We’d love to do this again!”
